Q: I’m travelling to Dublin soon and am wondering the best place to find the perfect pint of Guinness?
John L., Oshawa, ON

A: Hey John. Have fun in Dublin. It is one of my favourite cities. Dubliners take their Guinness very seriously, so you won’t have much problem finding a good Guinness. The key is finding the atmosphere you’ll enjoy the most. Obviously, the Temple Bar area would provide you with plenty of options for the perfect pint. However, to really get the full Guinness experience, I highly recommend the Guinness Storehouse Tour. Located on the site of the St. James Gate brewery, the core of the Storehouse is modelled on a giant pint glass. As you work your way up the building’s seven stories, you learn about Arthur Guinness, the man who founded the brewery, the brewing process, and the history of Guinness advertising and of the building itself. You can also learn how to pour that perfect pint, and you end your tour with a complimentary pint in the Gravity Bar. There, you’ll find what is clearly the best view of the city of Dublin. The tour cost 14 Euros, but I can tell you it is worth every single penny. After all, can you think of a better place to find that perfect pint of Guinness that at the brewery itself?

Q: I’ve got a business trip to Sydney, Australia coming up, but I only have one night free to take in the local pubs. Any suggestions on a neighbourhood where I can go on a pub crawl without too much travelling between pubs?
Sarah W., San Francisco, CA

A: Well, Sarah, I’m a real sucker for older neighbourhoods that have a lot of history. You’ll often find some of a city’s oldest and finest pubs in these neighbourhoods.

For Sydney, I recommend The Rocks. This is the site of Australia’s first European settlement, The Rocks are located on the west side of Circular Quay, opposite the Sydney Opera House. You’ll find plenty of history, some wonderful old architecture and a number of enjoyable pubs, all within a short walking distance, and right in the core of the city. If desired, you can even take a guided pub tour. Tickets and information about The Rocks Pub Tour can be found at the Sydney Visitor Centre on George Street in the heart of The Rocks.
