Welcome to whatalesyatv.com.
What Ales Ya is a weekly 30-minute lifestyle and travel show dedicated to pub culture, its food, its music, and the ancient art of beer making!
The first record of brewing goes back 6,000 years to the Sumerians who had discovered a ‘divine drink’ they considered a gift from the gods. The Egyptians, who continued to develop the art and held beer in the highest regard, even created a hieroglyph for ‘brewer’. And in the Finnish poetic saga Kalewala, 400 verses were devoted to beer; only 200 verses covered the creation of the earth!
Every town has at least one pub that more often than not is the social centre for the community. Every drinker has his or her favourite brew. And every beer, and every pub, is a product of its locale.
Each week, What Ales Ya will show how a town or city’s history and location adds flavour to its local pubs and breweries. Host Scott Jardine will take you on a tour of some of the world’s most interesting and long-standing establishments, delving into their unique history and savouring the tastes, the tunes and the culture of the surrounding landscape.
From Robbie Burns’ favourite hangout to the ‘oom pa pa’ of Oktoberfest, What Ales Ya will travel the globe to test the world’s best brews. We’ll travel to the Scottish highlands to discover the ancient taste of Heather Ale, skip across the Irish Channel to take in the sights and sounds of the Guinness warehouse tour and the world famous Temple Bar area of Dublin, and head to the beer gardens of Munich to learn more about the beverage that has made this Bavarian capital famous.
Learn some of the unique methods of local brewers. Sing along with the crowd as What Ales Ya visits some of the world’s most entertaining ‘singing’ pubs. Build up an appetite as we give you great hints on how to make local pub fare at home in our weekly “Pub Grub” segment. And follow us on our “Pub Crawl” as we hit a variety of the local establishments, taking in the frivolity of a night on the town.
So come along for the ride as we take you on a whirlwind tour with plenty of smiling faces and a bevy of ‘bevies’ each week on What Ales Ya.
